EF-S Standard Zoom. With a focal length equivalent to 28.8-88mm, it covers the semi-wide to short telephoto focal range.
Optical Image Stabilization. The built-in IS unit provides up to four stops of correction.
STM Autofocus Motor. The internal stepping autofocus motor supports Canon’s EOS Movie Servo AF, allowing smooth and continuous autofocus during video recording on compatible cameras.
Non-Rotating Front Element. Enables the use of circular polarizers / split ND filters.
Common Uses. Serves as a good walk-around lens for shooting outdoors in daylight with Canon crop-frame cameras. Its f/3.5-5.6 aperture is a bit too slow to use in low light, but can be supplemented with fill flash.
