Canon RF Mount. The Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS belongs to Canon’s line of RF-mount lenses. It’s compatible with . It does not work with Canon EF-mount cameras.
Versatile Midrange Zoom. This lens’s wide-angle to telephoto-zoom length makes it great for a range of applications, including vacation photography and general “walking-around” photography, while its 1.5-foot minimum focusing distance is quite nice for close-up work. Its constant f/4 aperture provides consistent performance throughout the zoom range, and its rounded nine-blade diaphragm gives you great depth-of-field control for selective focusing.
Advanced Optics. This lens’s fourteen-group/eighteen-element optical formula includes “F” Low Dispersion and Super Low Dispersion elements that minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing while providing high clarity, color fidelity, and sharpness. Canon has applied a Super Spectra coating to the lens elements to further combat ghosting and flaring, even in harsh lighting.
Ultrasonic Focusing Motor. This lens uses a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor and an STM mechanism to provide fast, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus performance for both still and video shooters. You also get full-time manual-focus override for precision adjustments when working in one-shot autofocus mode.
Optical Image Stabilization. The RF 24-105mm f/4L’s built-in image stabilizer compensates for five stops of camera shake, so that you can shoot in lower light at slower shutter speeds without worry.
Configurable Control Ring. This RF mount L-series lens features a new integrated, configurable control ring that you can use to adjust a range of exposure settings, including ISO, aperture, and exposure compensation.
High-Quality Build. This lens boasts a weather-resistant build that protects against the elements so you can use it in adverse conditions.

I am not now, nor will I ever be, a 24-105mm fan. I refer to them as the minivans of camera lenses. Yes, they’re useful and practical, especially when you want to go around with one all-purpose lens. But, like a minivan, they seriously lack cool factor and while they are decent for everything, they aren’t particularly good at anything either.
That said, if you need an all-purpose lens, you really can’t do better than this one. The IS is excellent and the optics are very good (especially at the longer end, where most 24-105s are weak). Honestly, I take it with me almost every time I shoot with an , because it’s just supremely adequate and that’s generally all I need.
