If you aren’t sure what this is, you don’t want it.
The TS-E 45mm f/2.8—Canon’s mid-range tilt-shift lens—allows correction of distortion for architectural work and product shots and modifications to depth of field (in focus from near field to infinity or artistic blurring). You can also use this lens to make a multiple-shot panorama.
The 45mm TS-E is probably the sharpest of the Mark I TS-E lenses.

If you haven’t used one before, please note that this lens has a learning curve, is manually focused, and takes practice to use effectively. I can’t tell you exactly how much practice, just that it’s more practice than I’ve had. However, even I can get some pretty nice images, control my depth of field nicely, make a panorama easily, etc. To do architectural work, a bit of chimping with trial-and-error or a reasonable amount of photographic knowledge is necessary. Even without being an expert with tilt-shift, though, its a lens I find myself using more and more. The more I use it, the better it gets. The better it gets, the more I use it.
