Ultra-Wide Zoom. With a 35mm focal length equivalent to 12-24mm and constant f/2.8 aperture, the Fuji XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR is perfect for landscape and architectural photography, in addition to myriad low-light shooting applications.

Linear Autofocus Motors. The autofocus motor provides fast, nearly silent performance for still and video use. Its inner-focusing and inner-zooming design keeps the physical size of the lens the same while ensuring extremely fast operation.

Optics. The thirteen-group/twenty-element optical formula uses a combination of four aspherical elements, six ED elements, and three super ED elements to minimize optical aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range. On top of that, a field curvature correction element adjusts depending on the zoom position. Nano-GI (Gradient Index) coatings that change the refractive index to suppress lens flare and ghosting.

Professional Build. The lens barrel’s eleven distinct weather seals make it a workhorse in even the poorest of conditions.

Take: Whoa, this lens is wide. Ultra-wides are not in my wheel house but sometimes you need something like this to get the job done. I was really surprised with how light it was despite the large size. IQ was great and I didn’t notice any significant smearing in the edges or uncorrectable vignetting. The big downside is that you can’t use filters with this if you need to but the extra stop is nice over the closest alternative which is the Fuji XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS . I’m not an astro person but I suspect that those of you out there interested in that kind of photography will appreciate it.
