Extreme Macro Lens. The Nanoha 5x Ultra-Macro uses microscope optics to give you 4x-5x macro capabilities for your compact, lightweight mirrorless system. When shot at 5x, each pixel is recording roughly a single micrometer. The lens offers great corner sharpness, producing high-quality images of a rarely seen part of this world. Its focus point is about 11mm when shooting at 5x, meaning you’re almost certainly need a macro lens rail for precise work.

Built-In LED. Since the aperture range is limited to f/11-32 in full-stop increments, there’s a built-in LED that provides even lighting. This LED light unit is powered by an included external USB power supply.

This lens is so much fun! While it obviously has specific uses it was designed for, it’s also really fun to find random objects to shoot extreme macro shots of. It has provides surprising good image quality for such a low-cost specialty lens. Its slow aperture range means you’ll need a sturdy tripod, as the built-in LED unit gives enough light for 1/60 – 1/125 @f/11 exposure times at ISO 400. Since the focus point is so close, you’re pretty much limited to the LED unit being your only source of light. For the best image quality, you should definitely stop down to f/16-22. All in all, this lens makes me want to do macro work. When there’s downtime, and it’s in stock, I’m reaching for this guy.
