The Nikon 105mm f/1.4E ED AF-S is a short telephoto lens for Nikon F-Mount Cameras. Key features include:
-
Stellar low-light shooting & shallow depth of field
-
Excellent clarity and color reproduction
-
Fast, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus
-
Nine-blade curved aperture
Fast-Aperture Short Tele. The Nikon 105mm f/1.4E ED AF-S is a true first of its kind. Combining a 105mm (157.5 crop equivalent) focal length with a f/1.4 aperture, it provides stellar low-light performance with an incredibly shallow depth of field. To top it all off, a nine-blade aperture makes sure all of those out-of-focus bits are smooth, making this lens a great choice for portrait work.
High-Quality Optics. The 105mm f/1.4’s optical formula is comprised of fourteen elements in nine groups. Its three extra-low dispersion elements ensure high clarity and color reproduction while keeping aberrations in check. The Nano Crystal Coating reduces flares and ghosting.
Smooth Autofocus. The Silent Wave Motor autofocus system is fast, accurate, and nearly silent, making this lens great for shooting subjects in motion. You can also go with a fully manual override for quick switch between autofocus and manual focusing by just rotating the focus ring.

Nikon has done a first here, a 105mm f/1.4 lens. Usually ‘firsts’ are something of a compromise, but this isn’t. It’s sharp as you could dream of, not just in the center, but all the way out to the edges. Autofocus is fairly quick and fairly quiet (not silent but quiet). It’s a bit different focal length for many people, but if you enjoy shooting an 85mm lens, you should really try this one out. Most people who’ve tried it like the focal length, and unless your 85mm is an Otus, you’ll find this one sharper. To me, it’s perfect as a long portrait or street photography lens, but because of it’s flat field of focus and minimal distortion, it’s really well suited to architectural shooting too.
