The Nikon 14mm f/2.8D ED AF is a very sharp, ultra wide-angle rectilinear prime lens. Key features include:
-
Extremely sharp images
-
Huge depth of field
-
Fast aperture
-
Excellent for landscape and architectural photography
Full Frame Super-Wide Lens. With a huge depth of field, low distortion, and fast aperture, it makes a marvelous landscape lens. It’s also frequently used for indoor architectural work.
Compatibility. This lens does not have a built-in autofocus motor. Therefore, it is not fully compatible with Nikon DSLRs such as the Nikon D40, D60, D3100, D5100, etc.
Well, my first question was “why use this when the 14-24 f2.8 is the best wide angle zoom in the world?”. Not to mention, this is an older design with a bit of chromatic aberration in the edges. …
Well, my first question was “why use this when the is the best wide angle zoom in the world?”. Not to mention, this is an older design with a bit of chromatic aberration in the edges. And at f2.8 the may resolve a bit better in the corners, despite the fact this is a prime.
But the 14mm does have some advantages. It’s much smaller and easier to carry around. And, unlike the , it doesn’t suffer focus shift so if you’re shooting at f3.5 or f4 this may be a better choice. And while the is a bit better in the corners, they are otherwise very comparable: sharp, distortion free lenses that provide and exceptionally wide angle view.
