Please, folks; if the lens you want to use this with isn’t listed above, don’t order it. It doesn’t work with the 80-400mm. It has never worked with the 80-400. The 1.4X is the teleconverter I recommend with few reservations. You can use it with any of the lenses above and have just a little deterioration in image quality (and of course give up one stop of light). The converter I really recommend only on the f/2.8 telephoto primes and the lens. You can certainly use it on some of the others (although autofocus may be impaired or not work at all depending on the camera you’re shooting). The is the compromise. You lose 1.5 stops of aperture and give up some image quality, although not a huge amount.
Remember, too, that a teleconverter gives you a double whammy: your exposure time and the focal length of the lens are both increased. This makes technical issues more likely so a sturdy tripod, mirror lock up, etc. are often critical to getting sharp images.
