Fast-Aperture Telephoto Zoom. The Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED AF-S VR provides a portrait to short-tele focal range, making it perfect for sports shooters and event photographers. With an APS-C sensor camera, you’ll have a focal length equivalent to 105-300mm, giving you an even more reach. The relatively fast f/2.8 aperture offers some shallow depth of field, while allowing you to keep shooting even when the lights get dim.
Advanced Optics. The 70-200mm features a redesigned optical system that has a total of 22 elements, including 1 fluorite element, 1 high refractive index element, and 6 extra-low dispersion elements. Nano Crystal coatings help keep ghosting and flares at bay, while the fluorine finish on the front and rear elements helps prevent smudging.
Improved Handling. This 70-200mm features four stops of image stabilization to keep shots steady at long focal lengths and slower shutter speeds. There’s also weather and dust sealing to keep the elements at bay when you’re shooting in adverse conditions. To top it all off, the aperture is now electromagnetically controlled for more consistent exposure control.

Suppose you made what is one of the best 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lenses on the planet. And then suppose you decided ‘one of’ wasn’t good enough. There you have it.
Optically, this is (as of December, 2016) the sharpest 70-200 f/2.8 zoom we’ve ever tested. The vibration reduction is superb. Autofocus is fast and accurate. Focus breathing is markedly improved over the Mark II version. Is there a downside? Well, it’s more expensive. But sometimes things are more expensive because it’s worth it.
