The 100-400’s zoom range and rounded nine-blade diaphragm make it great for wildlife and nature photography. You can also use this lens on APS-C mount cameras, on which it’ll provide a 150-600mm equivalent focal length.

High-Quality Optics. As a part of Sigma’s Contemporary lens line, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 goes through rigorous testing to ensure high image quality. Its 16-group/22-element optical design features 1 “F” Low-Dispersion element and 4 Super Low-Dispersion glass elements that correct for chromatic aberrations and color fringing while ensuring high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast throughout the zoom range. A Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes lens flare and ghosting, helping to provide high contrast, even in strong lighting.

Fast, Quiet Autofocus System. The 100-400mm’s integrated stepping autofocus motor provides fast, quiet operation in a broad range of shooting situations, and its optimized AF algorithm helps facilitate smooth performance. You can also manually override the autofocus motor at any time by rotating the focusing ring, giving you quick fine-tuning ability. At the 100mm end of the zoom range, you get a 3.7-foot minimum focusing distance, while at the 400mm end, the minimum focusing distance is 5.2 feet with a 1:3.1 maximum magnification. A built-in programmable AFL button and focus-limiter switch give you even greater control over focus, while the zoom-lock switch keeps you from accidentally extending the lens barrel.
