Internal Focusing. It’s internal focusing, so the front element doesn’t move or rotate while focusing. It has nearly circular aperture blades for more pleasing out-of-focus highlights, and provides a superb zoom range.

Well, first and foremost, it’s going to take that “pocket camera” feel away from any of the smaller Sony mirrorless cameras when you mount this thing on it. But it does provide a marvelous zoom range and a one lens solution. And you will certainly get some “What in the world is that?” comments.

How good is it? Well, it’s OK. It’s a superzoom, after all, and the best of those are good, not great. This one is good to about 150mm, not so good after that, though. This one is certainly as good as the 18-55mm and nearly as good as the 16mm from an image-quality standpoint. Which is more of a comment on how weak those lenses are than a comment on how good this one is.
