Normal-Range Short Macro. The FE 50mm f/2.8 serves as a dual-purpose lens. As a macro, it offers a full 1:1 magnification ratio for full life-size reproduction. The 6.3-inch minimum focusing distance and printed magnification scale on the barrel allow for precise focus adjustments. When not shooting macro, its 50mm focal length offers a normal field of view that’s useful for just about any type of photography. On APS-C models, the FE 50mm will provide a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Optical Design. One aspherical element and one extra-low dispersion element keep the aberrations to a minimum, giving you images that are sharp with a high level of clarity. A seven-blade aperture makes for some pretty nice out-of-focus highlights.
