Sony PXW-X200 XDCAM

The PXW-X200 builds on the success of Sony’s PMW-200 by upgrading the lens and expanding shooting options. Key features include:

• 3-chip 1/2″ Full HD CMOS sensor

• 29-499mm F/1.9-16 17x optical zoom lens

• Capture 4:2:2 10-bit in exFAT or UDF recording modes

• Wireless network functions and automatic back focus adjustment

Fujinon 17x Zoom Lens. This camera line was overdue for a lens upgrade. Sony had used the same 14x lens for the EX-1, EX-1R, and PMW-200. We’re happy to report this new design improves on its predecessor in every way. Zoom range, image quality, and even build quality are all better than before.

60p Capture. It’s been a long wait, but the Sony PXW-X200 XDCAM joins the rest of the pack with Full HD 1080/60p recording.

XAVC Codec. Sony’s XAVC line of shooting codecs have enchanted most of the professional video market with their high-quality images and small file sizes. This is only the second XDCAM camcorder to feature this new technology.

The camera body is heavy but has a nearly perfect balance between the battery and the lens, and it has all the on-body camera functions you’ll need for fast paced documentary and news work. On the negative side, you have to shoot onto proprietary SxS cards.
